Slow Food Russian River

Slow Food Russian River. The “Slow Food” movement celebrates the antithesis of “fast food”. Slow food is created by artisans, hobbyists, and modern homesteaders using care and respect for the environment. Our local slow food organization is Slow Food Russian River.

Slow Food is a non-profit, eco-gastronomic organization that supports a bio diverse sustainable food supply, local producers, heritage foodways, and rediscovery of the pleasures of the table. Carlo Petrini founded Slow Food as a response to the opening of a McDonald’s in Rome’s historic Piazza di Spagna in 1986. Since then, Slow Food has grown in to a international movement with more than 80,000 members in 130 countries world wide.

Slow Food Russian River is one of 150 convivia in the USA to carry out the Slow Food mission at the local level. We support and promote the food traditions that are part of the cultural identity of this country.

Slow Food Russian River works on a number of local projects, including the Gravenstein Apple Presidia, the Heritage Turkey Project, and more.

You might especially enjoy the Slow Food Film Series, held on Thursday evenings at VIVA in downtown Sebastopol. You can purchase delicious light dinner for just $15 (wine is available, too)…it’s a great dinner-and-a-movie bargain. I only wish they’d pick a different night than Thursdays, or I’d be there every week!
