Calling All Permies: Permaculture at Maker Fair

Interested in promoting permaculture at an exciting Bay Area event? I’ll be doing small booth about permaculture at Maker Faire in San Mateo, May 30-31, 2009. Maker Faire is a huge gathering of Do-It-Yourselfers hosted by MAKE Magazine. It’s an event where computer geeks rub shoulders with crafters and farmers and food makers in a celebration of creative and independent self-expression.

ReMake America Maker Faire

We’ll show off site plans and analysis, a-frames and water levels, worm composting, aerated compost tea, maybe some seed saving, and more. I’m really looking forward to the event; MAKE 18 just hit the newstands and includes Lay of the Land, an article I wrote as an introduction to home-scale land mapping from a permie’s perspective.

They’re expecting over 80,000 at Maker Faire this year, and here’s where I need your help. I’m looking for a permie volunteer to help me with the booth and give me a couple of breaks during the day. The right person will:

  • Have a passion for permaculture that you enjoy sharing with others (and preferably have a PDC or be working on one)
  • Be able to attend the Faire most of the day on both Saturday and Sunday. (CalTrain and BART are nearby, and highly recommended over sitting in traffic jams into to the fairgrounds).

I’ll make sure you get a few hours to enjoy the Faire itself along with access to the maker-only events on Friday if you like.

Interested? Send a note to me: terrie@permie.net.
